A police team led by Suresh V. Nair, Circle Inspector, Thampanoor, has left for Jharkhand, via Madurai, in search of five persons whom the city police believe were behind the heist at the Muthoot Finance branch at Kovalam on Sunday.

With the investigation team obtaining four mobile numbers, belonging to Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal, on Tuesday, the squad led by Mr. Nair could visit other States too. The police have indications that some members of the gang, probably after missing a flight, hired a taxi from the near the airport on which they are believed to have travelled up to Madurai.

CCTV visuals from the airport area and from near the Thampanoor railway station are being examined.
