The Kerala Monorail Corporation Limited (KMCL) is to meet here on July 30 to take a decision on the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) evaluation report on the opening of the financial bid submitted by a consortium on the elevated Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) for Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode.

The DMRC, the general consultant for the project in the two cities, has cleared the technical bid submitted by the consortium led by Bombardier Transportation Holdings USA Inc. It has also given the nod for opening the financial bid for the Rs.5,581-crore project.

The board meeting chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who is also the Chairman of the KMCL, would take a decision on the opening of the financial bid for awarding the exclusive developer-contractor, a senior KMCL official told The Hindu . Once the board gives the green signal, the DMRC could open the tender document in the presence of the KMCL officials in Delhi. There was a 51-day delay in evaluating the technical bid that was submitted on May 30. But not much time would be needed for processing the financial bid, the official said.

The DMRC team would be looking closely into the bid, as the variation between the bid and the estimate should not be above 10 per cent. Though there were many groups interested in the MRTS, only one bidder had come forward even after global tenders were floated twice.
