Kerala Cooperation Minister G. Sudhakaran has criticised the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) directive that commercial banks should not accept cheques issued by primary cooperative banks.
In a statement made here on Monday, Mr. Sudhakaran said the decision would adversely affect the 1,603 primary cooperative banks in the State as the RBI directive was that the commercial banks should not accept cheques other than those routed through district cooperative banks. The directive would immobilise the primary cooperative banks which had registered an unprecedented growth in turnover over the last three years.
