Senior CPI-M leader and Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan on Monday criticised the Union government decision appointing P.J. Thomas as Central Vigilance Commissioner, as he still figures as an accused in the palmolein import graft case.
“The case in which a senior congress leader is involved remains seriously still now”, Mr. Achuthanandan, who took up the case when he was the Opposition leader, said while addressing a press meet organised by the Thiruvananthapuram press club here.
Mr. Thomas figures as an accused in the case filed in 2003, in which the then Chief Minister K. Karunakaran is listed as the first accused. The case pertained to alleged irregularities in the import of palmolein through a Singapore-based firm that caused the exchequer a loss of Rs. 2.3 crore.
“I do not agree with Centre’s decision”, Mr. Achuthanandan added when asked about the appointment of Thomas as CVC.
