At the turn of the last century, on the initiative of the Kazhakuttam Pillai, prominent among the ‘Ettuveettil Pillamar,’ it was set up as a high school.
In 2004, the Kazhakuttam government high school, situated in the heart of Kazhakutttam, got a higher secondary wing.
However, lack of space, old dilapidated building, and unscientific constructions that sprung up over the years hampered the school’s development.
Minister for Devaswoms Kadakampally Surendran, who represents the constituency, promised multi-storey buildings and adequate play area for students.
Then, the school was selected to host the launch of a project to raise schools to international standards as part of the Public Education Rejuvenation Mission.
₹5-crore project
Situated in the IT hub of the city, the school is getting a facelift at a cost of ₹5 crore, being provided by the government. More funds will be raised from well-wishers, Mr. Surendran has said. The work is expected to be completed early next year, he said.
Generations of people who have studied at the school are eager to turn the school development project into a cause for celebration. Former students are doing their bit for this on social media.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the infrastructure development project for government schools in the State at the Kazhakuttam Government Higher Secondary School on Thursday.
The government has allocated ₹3 crore for raising the standards of Government High School, Kulathoor, too.
