Chief Minister to inaugurate four-laning of Karamana-Kaliyikkavila stretch

The work on widening the 29.2-km Karamana-Kaliyikkavila stretch of the National Highway, which passes through the capital district, will commence on October 24.

In the first phase, the four-laning of the Karamana-Pravachambalam stretch would be taken up, an official release issued here on Saturday said.

The government had sanctioned Rs.350 crore for the widening of the entire stretch. Of this, Rs.276 crore had been distributed as compensation to 818 families which had surrendered their land. As many as 75 houses and 408 business establishments had been removed to enable widening. The remaining Rs.74 crore would be utilised for widening.

The government had identified land to rehabilitate 65 families who had lost their houses due to land acquisition. One acre of land near the Kerala State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society, Nemom; 50 cents of land near Vellayani; and land near the BSNL office at Kaimanam would be used for this, sources said.

The government had sanctioned money for the reconstruction of the boundary walls of a village office, government Ayurveda dispensary, government schools, and offices, affected by the land acquisition, a release issued here said. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy would inaugurate the work.
