Karakulam adjudged best panchayat

The Karakulam panchayat has been adjudged the best local body in the district for the fourth consecutive time.

An official release issued here said the panchayat was selected on the basis of criteria such as the prompt convening of grama sabhas and the adept utilisation of funds for welfare and development works in a time-bound manner.

The local body had intervened successfully in mitigating the problems of people and taking up development works.

In a major initiative, the panchayat had used its resources to make people between the age of 7 and 75 e-literate, the release said.

As a step towards encouraging youngsters in taking up sporting events, the panchayat set up ‘Operation Olympia,’ at Karakulam and Vattapara to provide sports training.

A swimming pool had been constructed at a cost of Rs.30 lakh. Children who were participating in training programme were also given free food, the release said.

The panchayat had fully utilised the funds allocated for taking up schemes targeting the Scheduled Caste community. The local body had achieved its revenue target fully. the release said.
