The Kadakampally primary health centre is now a family health centre.

Minister for Devaswoms Kadakampally Surendran inaugurated the family health centre, elevated under the Aardram Mission of the government.

In his address, the Minister said Kerala was competing with developed nations as far as the health sector was concerned. Though it had notched up several achievements, some problems persisted. Lifestyle diseases had grown to become a huge burden.

The Minister asserted that the change from primary into family health centres went beyond change in nomenclature. The services of four doctors and three nurses would be available there. Lab technician would also be posted. The centre would remain open for treatment and lab facility from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Minister also inaugurated the e-health scheme of the family health centre. Corporation Health standing committee chairperson K. Sreekumar presided over the function.

The family health centres, set up by renovating primary health centres and overcoming their limitations, aim at catering to primary health care requirements of a family. Besides posting of more staff, the functioning of health subcentres will be modernised and patient-friendly treatment ensured.
