Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s former personal assistant Tenny Joppan has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.

Joppan, who was arrested on Friday in connection with the solar scam, was presented before the Pathanamthitta First Class Judicial Magistrate (II) Mohammed Raees’s residence here early Saturday morning.

Third accused

He has been listed as the third accused in the case, along with Biju Radhakrishnan and Saritha Nair.

Shortly after he was remanded in custody, Joppan complained that he was feeling sick.

Although the district jail authorities initially planned to take him to the district hospital, they gave up the move as activists of the All India Youth Federation were waiting outside the jail to block their path.

A doctor was summoned to the jail.

After examining Joppan, the doctor informed the jail authorities that Joppan had no major health problem.

The police did not seek his custody as, as explained by them, they had questioned him at some length and would have to do so only at the next stage of the investigation.
