The Janata Dal (Secular) has finalised its list of candidates for the May 16 Assembly elections, keeping out former Transport Minister Jose Thettayil in the Angamaly constituency.

Mr. Thettayil, who had been chosen by the constituency committee as their nominee but was rejected by the party Ernakulam district committee, is being replaced with former Angamaly municipal chairman Benny Munjeli.

The JD(S) Parliamentary Board, which met in New Delhi with JD(S) president H.D. Deve Gowda in the chair on Tuesday, decided to renominate all MLAs except Mr. Thettayil. Party State president Mathew T. Thomas will contest again in Thiruvalla, Jameela Prakasham in Kovalam, and C.K. Nanu in Vadakara.

The parliamentary board also decided to field K. Krishnan Kutty, who had returned to the party recently, in the Chittur constituency.
