Making it mandatory for autorickshaw drivers to provide a receipt and furnish the details of the Registration Certificate (RC) owner of a particular vehicle were among the suggestions made to check fleecing by auto drivers, at a Janamaithri meeting held at the Armed Reserve police camp here on Saturday.
Parking woes
Parking woes were aired at the meeting, presided over by City Police Commissioner P. Vijayan.
It was decided that stringent measures will be initiated against those who park their vehicles on footpaths. It will be ensured that vehicles are parked only along one side of roads.
The Commissioner decided that a meeting would be held with Bar Council representatives regarding parking on the Vanchiyoor- Naalumukku road before a decision is taken.
Steps will be taken to check motorcycle racing on the roads, thereby bringing down the number of accidents in areas such as Ulloor and Kazhakuttam.
It was decided that action will be taken against stores that violate rules regarding the printing of number plates.
Police number
It was announced during the meeting that the police can be informed on phone number 1090 if sale of alcohol or drugs in shops near educational institutions is noticed.
Police patrolling at night will be stepped up, Mr. Vijayan said.
Officials of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation, who were present, were told to ensure that buses stopped only in bus bays.
Kerala State Electricity Board representatives were told to repair street lights lying defunct, and to install lights in areas that are not lit yet.
All necessary arrangements will be made for the smooth conduct of the Attukal Pongala, Mr. Vijayan said. Office-bearers of residents’ associations and offficials of various departments were present during this meeting.
