DGP (Prisons) Alexander Jacob inaugurated the week-long celebrations at a function on Friday

Jail Day celebrations have begun at the Central Prison, Poojapura, providing a platform for the inmates there to showcase their talents in the field of sports and literature.

DGP (Prisons) Alexander Jacob inaugurated the week-long celebrations at a function on Friday, presided over by Jail Superintendent B. Pradeep.

At the function, Mr. Jacob said such platforms were necessary to provide a positive environment in jails and also to promote and nurture the talents of the inmates.

Sports competitions

Cine actor Remya Nambeesan was the chief guest.

Sports competitions such as carom, chess, volleyball, and shuttle will be conducted for the inmates, and so will literary competitions including short story writing and poem writing.

There will be poetry reading sessions organised by the inmates, who will present their poems and other writings. The celebrations will conclude on January 3 with prize distributions and special cultural programmes for the inmates.
