Inspections on curry powder units continue

The Food Safety Department continued the quality checks and inspections in manufacturing units of various brands of curry and spices powders on Monday also, following a directive of the Health Minister.

On Monday, food safety officials inspected 19 large-scale manufacturing units making curry, masala powders, and flour. Four of the units were issued improvement notices while a fine of Rs.18,000 was imposed on three others. Officials also collected 14 statutory samples of curry powders and 37 surveillance samples for quality checks. Food safety officials closed down Prasad oil mill at Kinfra park in Kasaragod district as the unit did not possess the mandatory licence and also because it was found to be functioning in unhygienic surroundings.

A total of 100 large-scale units manufacturing spices and curry powders have been inspected in the past few days across the State, out of which 19 have been issued improvement notices and 14 others asked to pay a fine totalling Rs.1, 26,000. A total of 75 statutory samples and 167 surveillance samples have been sent for lab analysis so far.
