An Infant Resuscitation Unit was inaugurated at the SAT Hospital here on Monday.
Shashi Tharoor, MP, inaugurated the life-saving equipment, which was bought by using the MP’s Local Area Development Fund. The occasion also marked the launch of the ‘Ammayum Kunhum’ scheme, under the Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram of the Union government, at the hospital. A total of Rs.11.2 lakh from the MP’s fund was allocated for the development of the hospital. More medical equipment would be purchased using the remaining fund.
Stressing the importance of the life-saving unit, Dr. Tharoor recounted a personal experience, of how his twin sons were born premature. One of them needed resuscitation, a treatment which was unavailable in India but possible for his child as he was posted in Singapore at that time.
