Governor P. Sathasivam and his wife are all set to cast their votes in the Assembly polls on May 16, a first for a southern State.

District Collector Biju Prabhakar said this was the first time a Kerala Governor and his wife were going to cast their votes in an election here.

“Today morning, I went and handed the photo identity voting slip to and his wife. When I handed over the slip, I told him through this [voting] he has become a full Keralite,” said Prabhakar.

“For enrolling in the electoral list, the applicant has to register online, and that was what the Governor did. Once he did that, the booth level officer and the Tehsildar did the verification, and today [Saturday] I handed over the slips,” said Prabhakar.

The Governor’s vote is in the Vattiyurkavu Assembly segment. His name falls under Booth No. 68. He will vote at the Jawahar Nagar lower primary and nursery school.

Meanwhile, District Collector Biju Prabhakar on Saturday inaugurated the distribution of voter slips in the district by handing over a slip to Governor P. Sathasivam.

Mr. Prabhakar said the distribution of voter slips would be completed by May 11 under the supervision of booth-level officers.

This time, the slips will reach voters’ houses.

All arrangements, including deployment of Central forces, have been made, he said. (With inputs from IANS)
