Human skull found in drain

October 31, 2013 01:57 pm | Updated 01:57 pm IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

A set of municipal cleaners on Wednesday stumbled upon a human skull while cleaning a storm water drain overgrown with weeds at Jayaprakash Lane residential colony in Kudappanakkunu.

They alerted the police who along with local people and forensic experts searched the area in vain for the remaining parts of the body. The police said they were unsure whether the skull was that of a man or woman. They were not ruling out the possibility of the skull being part of a skeleton used for medical study. The skull had no signs of mortal injury, the police said. The area where the skull was found was wilderness, some of it wetlands, till recently. No known burial area existed there as per land records. However, residents of what was once a suburban area were, till recently, in the habit of burying their dead in their own property.

The police have registered a case.
