Host of events to mark govt anniversary

17-day-long fete to start on May 25

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will launch the celebrations to mark the first anniversary of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government at the Nishagandhi auditorium here on May 25.

The celebrations will be marked by the lighting of 1,000 lamps. Revenue Minister E. Chandrasekharan will preside over the function.

Announcing the 17-day-long celebrations here on Friday, Minister for Tourism and Cooperation Kadakampally Surendran said the Chief Minister will kick off the piling works of the ICTT, Vizhinjam on June 1 as part of the anniversary celebrations. On the occasion, the government will honour those responsible for making available water from Neyyar Dam to Aruvikkara, thereby preventing a water crisis in the capital. The event will conclude with a musical event, ‘Big Band’, performed by Balabhaskar, Mattannoor Sankarankutty, Ranjit Barot, and Fazal Qureshi.

The Chief Minister will inaugurate a new civil station building at Ranni on May 20. The next day, he will distribute title deeds at Kattappana.

Handloom uniforms

Mr. Vijayan will inaugurate the distribution of handloom uniforms at the VJT hall here on May 22. The Public Relations Department will organise a screening of the LDF’s’’ government’s achievements in the last one year. It will continue till May 27. The Chief Minister will inaugurate a seminar on ‘Responsible Media’ at Mascot Hotel.

On May 23, Mr. Vijayan will lay the foundation stone for flats as part of the Life Mission at Punalur. The next day he

will inaugurate the outpatients ward renovation project as part of the Aardram scheme and a seminar on ‘Vazhikaattunna Keralam’ in Kollam.

The Chief Minister will open a fish festival in Kollam and will attend an editors’ meet at the Government guest house, Thycaud, on May 27.

On May 28, Sports Minister A. C. Moideen will inaugurate Operation Olympia in Thrissur.

Varattar rejuvenation

Finance Minister T. M. Thomas Issac will inaugurate the Varattar rejuvenation programme on May 29. The Chief Minister will inaugurate the Cyberpark and declare Kerala a fully electrified State in Kozhikode.

The Tourism Minister will inaugurate a Centre for Performing Arts at Varkala on May 31.

Administrative Reforms Commission chairman V.S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate a seminar on ‘Corruption-free governance and administrative reforms’ at VJT Hall on June 2.

Cultural Affairs Minister A.K. Balan will lay the foundation stone for the Kinfra Film and Video Archives at Kazhakuttam, near here.

On June 4, Mr. Achuthanandan will inaugurate a religious amity convention in Kannur.

On June 5, as part of World Environment Day, Governor P. Sathasivam will inaugurate a tree planting programme here. Education Minister C. Ravindranath will distribute textbooks for the coming academic year in Kannur.

The Chief Minister will inaugurate the valedictory function on the Kozhikode beach at 6 p.m. A musical event will follow.
