SSLC-failed ‘doctor’ flees

The district health administration, in a raid conducted in Pozhiyoor on Wednesday, exposed a quack who had been practising modern medicine and running a hospital at Uchakkada for at least 20 years, without even matriculation as qualification.

Officials who raided Usha Hospital, found that the ‘doctor’ there, N. Poulose (65), had only an ‘SSLC-failed’ certificate.

Dose of steroids

He had been treating patients, including children, with heavy doses of steroids and a varied mix of antibiotics, for all kinds of ailments.

The hospital had three staff nurses, a pharmacist and a lab technician also, none of whom had any required qualifications, officials said.

Re-using syringes

Vast stocks of medicines past expiry date were also seized from the hospital.

Officials said that disposable syringes were being rinsed and re-used in the clinic.

The ‘doctor’, however, absconded with help from local people, who had gathered in support of the ‘doctor’ and were opposing the raid.

The police have registered a case and investigation is on.
