Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy inaugurated the renovation works at the General Hospital here on Tuesday. Speaking at the function Ms. Sreemathy said that the Health Department had initiated activities to upgrade the hospital and make it more people-friendly.

“The hospital has speciality departments, like the Urology Department, with advanced medical facilities as well as services of experienced doctors. The government has also made appointments for all posts except that of nursing assistant,” she said.

Rs.15-crore project

The Rs.15-crore project is expected to be completed by March 2011. The project includes the Rs.5-crore work on a new trauma care unit and renovation of casualty and out-patient blocks. For renovation of wards and other blocks Rs. 5 crore has been earmarked.

The works on the operation theatre complex coming up in the in-patient building will also be completed under the project. Round-the-clock pharmacy, lab, blood bank and X-Ray facilities will also be arranged.

With this renovation, the hospital will be equipped with all facilities of a referral hospital, the Minister said.

MLA V. Surendran Pillai presided over the inaugural function. Mayor C. Jayan Babu released the hospital citizen charter.
