: A high-level team of officials, including the Health Secretary and the DME, are currently in New Delhi to meet the Union Health Ministry officials and to buy more time for the State to make up for the deficiencies in its new medical colleges before the MBBS admissions start this year.

The Idukki and Palakkad medical colleges are to take in the third batch of MBBS students this year, while Manjeri would be taking in the fourth batch.

The question of winning back MCI recognition for the additional 50 MBBS seats at the Alappuzha and Kozhikode medical colleges are also being taken up.

However, the MBBS admissions this year at the new GH Medical College at Thiruvananthapuram, and at Paripally ESI Medical College is hanging in balance.
