Minister for Social Justice K.K. Shylaja on Tuesday released the logo of the 181 helpline for women, which will become operational in the State by the end of March.

With the launch of the helpline, to be called Mitra 181, the State will join four other States where the common toll-free number will be functional.

The Kerala State Women’s Development Corporation under the Social Justice Department will oversee the functioning of the helpline.

Ms. Shylaja said the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government was committed to women’s security and other issues. Preparations had been completed to set up a separate department for women and children’s issues, she said. The Governor’s policy address also had made this suggestion.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan would inaugurate the Mitra 181 helpline on March 27, Ms. Shylaja said.
