The Helping Hands Organisation (H2O), Queerythm (a community-based organisation for the LGBTIQI people) and The Gender Park under the Social Justice Department are joining hands to launch a campaign titled ‘Thinking beyond He or She’ to promote gender equality.

The campaign would begin on November 20, the International Transgender Day of Remembrance. “The transgender community faces numerous atrocities, both mental and physical. We, as social activists, are trying our best to help children see the transgender community as human beings and not to alienate them from society. We are trying to create a platform called Children’s Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA),” said Prajith of H2O at a news conference here on Saturday.

Various programmes are being organised as part of the campaign. Around 200 children and 200 adults would take part in a walkathon from Manaveeyam Veedhi to Kanakakkunnu Palace on November 20. This will be followed by an interactive session with transgender activists like Akkai Padmashali, Shyama S. Prabha and Ashok Koshy, poetry conference and film screening.

The organisations have together also put in place a helpline for members of the LGBTQI community facing harassment or atrocity. The helpline number is 9745545559, he said.
