Every year, more and more parents enrol their children on personality development courses. But hardly do we ever hear about the results; parents let the course sink in as just another way to keep their little ones occupied while children adopt the same dismissive attitude. This was the main talking point at the valedictory function on Tuesday of a personality development course conducted by Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pangode.
The function, chaired by Brigadier Samir Salunke, Station Commander, Army Station, Pangode, saw a discussion involving parents, children and their personality development coaches.
“I wanted to join the cricket club but my father would not have it. I made a big fuss about it, but having gone through the personality development course, I feel a lot better about myself,” says Rajith R., a student of the school. “In fact, I think it will help me play better cricket.” Parvathy Nair of Class 7 said she “discovered a new girl within herself who was more confident and willing to grow up” while Aayilia said she understood people better now.
Parents too noted marked changes in their children during the tenure of the course. Personality development coach Varsha Basheer had some advice for them. “You should not feel that all change should come from the children,” she said. “It is your responsibility to make them feel confident and build their self-esteem.” She also said that during sharing sessions, about three-fourth of her class admitted to feeling that their parents did not love them.
Addressing the gathering, Brigadier Salunke called upon the need for cultivating ‘two-way traffic.’
The personality development course was conducted in association with the Thoughts Academy.
