The Thampanoor police have arrested an autorickshaw driver on the charge of waylaying a government contractor. The police said the suspect beat up the man and decamped with Rs.10,000 which he had kept in his wallet.
Sheen Tharayil, Circle Inspector, Thampanoor, identified the accused as Rafiq, 34, a resident of Muttathara. The contractor, Gopalakrishnan Nair, was waiting in front of a hotel near the Thampanoor police station to hail an autorickshaw to go home early on Sunday.
A team led by M. Radhakrishnan Nair, Assistant Commissioner, Fort, arrested the suspect.
Wanted man arrested
The police have arrested Anoop Alias “Karali” Anoop, a person named by the District Magistrate as a “known rowdy” under the provisions of the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act (KAPA), on the charge of extorting money from traders.
A police team led by K.S. Vimal, Assistant Commissioner, Shanghumugham, arrested the suspect.
The police said Anoop had just come out of prison after six months of preventive detention under the provisions of the KAPA.
He had been arrested earlier on the charge of assaulting a migrant family that made sweets for local confectionaries, for not paying him protection money.
