The Health Department would organise a comprehensive mass contact programme, as part of which adalats will be held in all districts, said Minister for Health V. S. Sivakumar.

Addressing a meeting of Senior Medical Officers here on Wednesday, Mr. Sivakumar said complaints and suggestions on the functioning of primary health centres, community health centres, taluk hospitals, district hospitals, General Hospitals and Medical College hospitals would be taken up at the district adalats. As the first step, complaint boxes would be kept in front of all hospitals. A district-level complaints redressal cell, including the District Collector, District Medical Officer and District Programme Manager of NRHM will resolve the complaints that can be addressed at the district level.

A State-level complaints redressal cell, including the Principal Secretary, Health; State Mission Director, NRHM and the Director of Medical Education, will look into the complaints that cannot be resolved at the district-level.

The complaints regarding Medical College hospitals will be handed over to the respective Principals and those which need a higher-level intervention will be sent back to the State-level cell.

The complainants will be informed about the redressal of their complaints by mail.

The Health Minister will lead the district-level adalats, the first of which will be on March 23 at Ernakulam General Hospital.

At the SMO conference, the Health Minister directed that all maintenance and renovation works, including painting in hospitals, be completed before May 31. Health Secretary Rajeev Sadanandan; State Mission Director M. Beena; Director of Health Services P.K. Jameela; DMOs from all districts and senior Health Department officials took part in the meeting.
