Senior Congress leader and Nehru Centre chairman M.M. Hassan ended his 24-hour fast, demanding the shifting of protests from near the Secretariat to another venue, ended at Gandhi Park here on Wednesday. He ended the fast by drinking a glass of lime juice given by Cardinal Baselios Mar Cleemis.
Cardinal Mar Cleemis lauded Mr. Hassan for adopting Gadhiji’s methods of agitation for a good cause.
“This protest is aimed at reducing the hardship caused to city residents. The best thing about this is that it is not a movement against protests. Rather, he adopted an accepted way of protest to raise the issue, which is commendable,” Cardinal Mar Cleemis said.
Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor was also present.
On Tuesday, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala had said that an all-party meeting would be convened to discuss the issue of finding an alternative protest venue in Thiruvananthapuram to spare the city residents of the inconveniences caused by protests in front of the Secretariat.
