Kerala State Fish Workers Debt Relief Commission has recommended to the government to write off loans taken by 56,695 fish workers to a tune of Rs.121.30 crore.
In its first report submitted to Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan here on Wednesday, Commission said loans taken by fishermen from HUDCO and from MATSYAFED were taken up for consideration, Commission Chairman Justice J.J. Dineshan told reporters.
The Commission would look into the loans taken by fishermen from commercial and scheduled banks in its next sitting. The commission has received 1,09,555 applications, he said.
Out of the 121.30 crore, 11.82 crore was on account of house loan taken from HUDCO and Rs.109.47 crore from MATSYFED, he said.
State Fisheries Minister S. Sharma said the report would be placed before the cabinet for ratification.
