Reading should not just be a way to gain knowledge, but it should also be used for skill improvement, Governor P. Sathasivam has said. He was speaking after inaugurating the Reading Day celebrations and the 21st Reading Festival at Kanakakkunnu on Sunday.

“It is a relief that now there is much reading happening over the internet. Whatever be the medium, reading should become a habit. That habit can help us in becoming responsible citizens. The library movement had a key role to play in the building of modern Kerala. Hence, it is important that we remember those like P.N. Panicker and try to follow their paths,” he said.

Education Minister C. Raveendranath, who presided over the function, said that reading should have a sense of purpose and direction.

“The way we approach a particular work is important. Being accurate in our approach can give us better reading pleasure,” he said.
