Governor releases book edited by Shashi Tharoor

June 20, 2013 12:14 pm | Updated 12:14 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

There should be a law to prevent those with questionable integrity from contesting the elections, Governor Nikhil Kumar has said. Putting an end to criminalisation of politics would bring down corruption, he said at the launch of ‘India: the future is now,’ a book edited by Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor here on Wednesday.

“Unfortunately, our country has no laws to prevent such people from contesting the elections,” he said.

The ideas of the youth and their voices should be heard and understood to chart out a better future for the country, Dr. Tharoor said.

The book chronicles the aspirations and dreams of India’s 12 young parliamentarians. Anantkumar Hegde, Anurag Singh Thakur, Hamdullah Sayeed, Jay Panda, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kalikesh Singh Deo, M.B. Rajesh, Milind Deora, Nishkant Dubey, Poonamben Veljibhai Jat, Priya Dutt Roncon, and Sanjay Jaiswal are contributors. The drawings are by Sudhir Tailang. A panel discussion followed.
