Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here on Thursday that the government was of the view that beliefs should also be taken into consideration with regard to the opening of the remaining vault at Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple here.

Asked about the finding of a ‘devaprasnam' at the temple against the opening of the vault, the Chief Minister told the media that the government would communicate its views to the Supreme Court, if asked for. However, the final verdict was to be pronounced by the court.

Mr. Chandy said the government had not received any complaint about pilfering of the riches of the temple by the royal family of erstwhile Travancore. He felt that Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan should have avoided the remarks against the current head of the royal family in this regard. The fact that the riches were protected during the reign of the Travancore kings was proof of their trustworthiness.

He said the security measures at the temple would be reviewed on September 5.
