More than 200 scientists and policymakers participating in an international conference beginning here on Thursday will seek to come up with a mechanism for data sharing among countries on climate modelling and disaster management technologies.

The three-day International Conference on Climate Change and Disaster Management (i3cdm) is organised by the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) and International Institute of Space Law (IISL) in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), and Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE).

IAA president and former ISRO chairman G. Madhavan Nair said the scientific sessions were based on four themes, namely climate change modelling and observations; observations and prediction of natural calamities; disaster management and legal issues of climate change; and disaster management and data sharing policies.

The schedule includes three plenary lectures, five invited lectures, and 65 research papers.

A roundtable discussion with heads of space agencies and Secretaries of Union Ministries is one of the highlights of the meet.

Governor P. Sathasivam is scheduled to inaugurate the conference on Thursday at Leela Hotel, Kovalam.

Heads of major space agencies such as Le Gall, president, CNES (French government space agency) and Mendieta of the Mexican Space Agency, and international climate change experts, including Berrien Moore, Norman, Oklahoma, are expected to attend the event.
