Getting to know Gotipua

August 15, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:45 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The north Kerala chapter of Spic-Macay will organise a lecture demonstration on Gotipua, the folk dance from Odisha, at Sree Chithra Home on Monday.

The demonstration, by the Konark Natya Mandap, Puri, will be held at 4.30 p.m. In Oriya, Goti means single, and pua means boy. However, the dance is performed in groups.

The dance has been performed for centuries by young boys dressed up as female dancers to worship Lord Jagannath.
