Mahatma Gandhi’s thoughts and ideas are becoming increasingly relevant today, Governor P. Sathasivam has said.

He was speaking after releasing the Malayalam translation of ‘Walking with the Mahatma, Gandhi for the Modern Times’ authored by N. Radhakrishnan and Daisaku Ikeda at Gandhi Bhavan here on Monday. “Gandhian thoughts help one enter the path of non-violence and understand fear as man’s greatest enemy,” he added.

Mr. Sathasivam congratulated the State Institute of Languages for bringing out the translated version of the book. “The translation will benefit teachers and students alike, especially at a time when violence is on the rise in society,” he said, stressing how interaction and dialogues are imperative for students’ growth.

Translator N. Gopalakrishnan Nair spoke about the role of parents in bringing change to society and contributing to peace-keeping.

“Sometimes we become part of what we are writing, what we are giving expressions to,” said the author of the book N. Radhakrishnan adding that he “enjoyed the interactions with the greatest Gandhian alive; Mr. Ikeda.”

The book, that has 16 chapters, is the outcome of the interactions Mr. Ikeda and Mr. Radhakrishnan — both peace-educators and proponents of Gandhian views — had between 1986 and 2015. It delves into the philosophies and teachings advanced by Buddha and King Ashoka.
