Two furniture shops were gutted in a fire that broke out at Thekkumoodu near Plamoodu Junction in the city on Saturday.

The Thiruvananthapuram fire force station received a call around 7.25 a.m. that fire had broken out at Kerala Furniture Mart and the adjacent Cane Wooden Furniture, sources said. Four fire engines from the station and another two from the Chakka station could douse the fire by 9 a.m. However, much of the displayed furniture was gutted in the fire. Only some from the cane furniture showroom could be salvaged. The shops are owned by two brothers John Kennedy and Justin Moses.

No injuries have been reported. The authorities are yet to confirm the cause of the accident.
