Efforts on to develop State as IT hub
The government will take up work on developing four busy junctions in the capital city - Peroorkada, Vattiyoorkavu, Thirumala and Sreekariyam, said Minister for Urban Affairs and Industry P. K. Kunhalikutty.
A vegetable market at Chala and a trade centre-cum-mini bus stand at Kazhakuttom will be built as part of the capital city development programme. A commercial complex at Bakery Junction and a parking plaza are other proposals, Mr. Kunhalikkuty said in a written reply in the Assembly on Wednesday to a question by Varkala Kahar and M. A. Vahid.
Minister for Power Arayadan Mohammed informed the House in a written reply that a sub-station would be set up at Attukal. The Public Works Department, which owns 25 cents of land in Attukal, had been asked to make available the land for the sub-station, he added.
Mr. Kunhalikutty, who also holds the IT portfolio, said the government would soon come out with an IT policy. The government is for making the State a world-class IT destination. Efforts are on to develop an extensive IT hub comprising Infopark, Kochi, and Smartcity.
As much as 451 acres of land have been acquired for the proposed Technocity in Thiruvananthapuram, the Minister said in a written reply to R. Rajesh. Of the 90.25 acres of land that had to be acquired for the third phase development of Technopark, 80.84 acres had been acquired. Of this, 27 acres had got the Special Economic Zone status.
The Minister said the construction of 10 lakh sq,ft IT complex under the name ‘Ponmudi' and ‘Anamudi' is progressing. Besides, seven companies had been given land here for setting up IT/ITES industries on a 90-year lease. Mr. Kunhalikutty said administrative sanction had been given for 11 technolodges. Of these, three had commenced functioning. The technolodges at Veliyam in Kollam and Mayil in Kannur will soon start functioning. The others technolodges that been given the nod are at Anchal in Kollam, Pathanapuram, Puthukulam, Karikunnam, Kodakara and Veloor in Thrissur district.
A meeting of representatives of political parties convened by Vattiyoorkavu MLA K.Muraleedharan on Wednesday reached a consensus on speeding up the development of Peroorkada Junction.
