The Thiruvananthapuram Development Authority (TRIDA) has begun its work on yet another bus terminal-cum-shopping complex project in the city.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy laid the foundation for a 41,700-sq ft complex at Kazhakuttam. The 28,400-sq ft terminal can accommodate 15 buses at a time. The three-storey complex would be provided with a parking lot in the basement. Around 140 vehicles could be parked in the lot.

In the first phase, the basement and ground floors would be constructed.

The work would be completed in 18 months. The government had sanctioned Rs.20 crore.

Laying the foundation, Mr. Chandy said the region had developed fast, thanks to the setting up of Technopark. Communist Party of India (Marxist) members waved black flags at the Chief Minister while he arrived for the function.

The police put barricades near the venue to prevent the CPI(M) workers from entering the function site. Minister for Urban Affairs Manjalamkuzhi Ali; M.A. Wahid, MLA; and chairman of TRIDA P.K. Venugopal were present.
