Five students of St. John’s Higher Secondary School, Undankode, near Vellarada, were injured after a teacher of the same school lost control of her car and rammed it into a group of students waiting for bus outside the school on Wednesday. The police said all the students were from Class 10 and sustained minor injuries in the accident, which occurred around 4 p.m.

The police have seized the car and registered a case against the teacher. Though she had a driving licence, she was still learning to drive and had a ‘L’ sticker on the car.

Attack: three arrested

Three men, who allegedly hacked Mohanan, the Poojappura mandalam vice-president of the Congress, near Thirumala late Tuesday night, were arrested on Wednesday. The police said the trio – Sumesh, alias Motta Sumesh, of Perukavu; Shiju, alias Unni, of Malayinkeezhu; and Sreejith of Thirumala – had hacked Mohanan owing to previous enmity. The victim, who sustained grievous injuries, is being treated at the medical college hospital.

The police said first accused Sumesh had led the attack owing to personal issues with Mohanan.

The police have initiated proceedings under sections of the Kerala Anti-social Activities Prevention Act (KAAPA) against the three.

They were produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
