The National Fish workers Forum (NFF) and Kerala Swathantra Matsya Thozhilali Federation (KSMTF) are preparing for an indefinite agitation to press the Union government to repeal the licence granted to foreign fishing vessels to operate in Indian waters.
A team of fish workers from the State left here for New Delhi on Friday to participate in a Parliament march on April 22 and a sit-in to be held at Jantar Mantar the next day to highlight their demands. They want the government to reject the Meenakumari committee report on deep-sea fishing and the Syda Rao committee report on extending the monsoon trawl ban to 61 days.
A press note issued by the KSMTF and NFF here on Friday said the agitation at Jantar Mantar was to press the Centre to take the initiative to resolve the frequent disputes between Indian and Sri Lankan fishermen.
