A fire broke out in the godown of an outlet of the Kerala State Beverages Corporation at Pappanamcode on Sunday, destroying Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) estimated at several lakhs of rupees.
Fire and Rescue Services personnel battled for over three hours to contain the fire that broke out at 12.15 noon. They could not initially enter the smoke-filled godown on the first floor of the building. The godown's ventilators were blocked by piled-up cartons.
As a precautionary measure, power supply in the locality was disconnected by the Kerala State Electricity Board. Sources said the Electrical Inspectorate would carry out an inspection on Monday to help identify the cause of the fire. The outlet, which was functioning on the ground floor, was not affected, but was closed down.
Fire tenders and water tankers from the stations at Chengalchoola, Chakka, Neyyattinkara, Vizhinjam, Parassala, and Attingal were deployed. The Nemom police have registered a case.
