A film on K.G. George, one of the pioneers of the parallel cinema movement in the State, was among the highlights of the third day of the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala here on Sunday.
‘8 ½ Intercuts: Life and Films of K.G. George,’ directed by Lijin Jose and Shahina K. Rafeek, sheds light on the film-maker who successfully depicted the cross-section of Kerala society in the seventies and eighties.
In the Maestro segment, German film-maker Wim Wenders’ ‘Notebook on cities and clothes’ was screened. In the Homage to Chalam Bennurkar segment, the film-maker’s ‘Children of Mini-Japan’ was screened.
At a press meet, Aparna M.G., director of ‘Drop,’ said short films could express an idea within a short duration of time. She said that she had directed a short film that was just a minute-long and wanted to be known as a director of short films.
Monachan R., director of ‘Thedal,’ spoke of his initial fear of transgenders and empathy he felt when he came to know them better.
His passion for films was what spurred him to become a film-maker in spite of being differently abled, Siju Vijayan, director of ‘Wheel to reel – a dream journey’ said.
Anuj Ramachandran, Amar Kaushik, Robin Ravindran, Prasoon Chatterji, Rohit Shukre, Juhi Rajwani, Vedansh Srivastava also took part in the press meet. Film-makers Uma Tanuku, K.V. Kamal, Siddharth Chauhan, Binoy Raveendran, J. Bibin Joseph, Harshal Wadkar, Suresh Gangadharan, Pratheek Prathosh, and George Kora spoke.
