Film critics awards announced

Oppam adjudged best film of 2016

Oppam , directed by Priyadarshan, has bagged the top honours among the 40th Kerala Film Critics Awards, which were declared on Monday.

While it was adjudged the best film of 2016, Mohanlal and Priyadarshan were selected for the best actor (male) and best director awards for Oppam , Kerala Film Critics Association president Thekkinkad Joseph and general secretary Balan Thirumala announced at a press conference here on Monday.

Nayanthara has been selected for the best actor (female) award for her performance in the film Puthiya Niyamam.

Jacobinte Swargarajyam has been selected as the second best film. While Renji Panicker and Siddique shared the award for the second best actor (male) for their roles in Jacobinte Swargarajyam and Sukhamayirikkatte respectively, Surabhi Lakshmi has won the second best actor (female) for her performance in Minnaminungu .

Baby Esther Anil and Baby Akshara have been selected joint winners for the child artiste award.

Nivin Pauly, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Tiny Tom and Samuthirakani have all been selected for special jury awards for their performances in various films.

Vineeth Sreenivasan has won the best scriptwriter award for Jacobinte Swargarajyam.

While Vayalar Sarath Chandra Varma bagged the best lyricist award for Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho, M. Jayachandran has been adjudged the best music director for his compositions in Kambhoji.

Madhu Balakrishnan, Varsha Vinu and Alka Ajith have won awards for best playback singers.

Sujith Vasudev has won the best cinematography award for James and Alice .

Adoor to be felicitated

Renowned film-maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan has been selected for the Ruby Jubilee award, instituted by the association, on the occasion of its fortieth anniversary celebrations. Film-makers Sreekumaran Thampi, Fazil, cinematographer K. Ramachandra Babu and actor Shanthi Krishna will be honoured with the Chalachitra Ratnam awards for their lifetime contributions to the Malayalam film industry.

The organisers were yet to decide on the date and venue of the presentation ceremony.
