A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Monday directed the State government to file the latest report on the steps taken by it to tackle garbage disposal problems in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation and Vilappil panchayat.

The Bench comprising Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice Vinod Chandran issued the directive when the pending petition on pollution caused by the Villappilsala solid waste treatment plant came up for hearing.

The court also directed the Villappilsala Samara Samiti to file a report on the alternative arrangements being made to solve the issue. The court issued the directive when the Corporation counsel disputed the contention of the Samiti that the Corporation had solved the problem by making alternative arrangements.

Earlier, the court had directed Pollution Control Board (PCB) experts to inspect the Vilappilsala plant to find the present state of affairs and the feasibility of running a plant at the location

The PCB in its report had suggested that volume of garbage sent to the plant be reduced.
