The third phase of the campaign to check the spread of dengue fever, organised by the State Department of Health and the city Corporation, will be held from 8 a.m. on Sunday.
The first and second phases of the anti-dengue campaign were held during the past two Sundays.
According to a press release issued by the Health Department, only 45 cases of dengue fever have been reported this month.
The programme scheduled this Sunday will be based on the activities taken up on November 4 and 11, when 5,000 squads each had fanned out into the city Corporation wards, inspecting and eliminating possible mosquito breeding spots.
50 squads in each ward
Squads comprise junior health inspectors, junior public health nurses, 3,000-odd ASHA workers, Kudumbasree and Anganwadi groups, office-bearers of residents’ associations and volunteers from various youth and social groups.
Fifty squads will focus on each ward.
Leading the squads will be District Medical Officer T. Pithambaran, District Programme Manager of the National Rural Health Mission B. Unnikrishnan and Corporation Health Officer D. Sreekumar.
In addition to identifying sources, the health squads will also conduct public awareness classes, according to the press note.
Sandesha Yatra
Under the auspices of the Kerala Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA), a ‘Sandesha Yatra’ or awareness rally will be flagged off at 9 a.m. from the General Hospital by Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar.
Doctors, numbering around 40, will conduct classes at 25 different locations in the city and distribute pamphlets on how to avoid the spread of communicable diseases.
