An intensive campaign to prevent and control the spread of various fevers, including dengue, is on at the Government Medical College Hospital.
As dengue spreads through mosquitoes, their destruction and source-reduction activities are bring carried out. Awareness campaigns involving employees, patients, and the public are also being undertaken.
Pre-monsoon clean-up has been under way on the campus since April 15. The crisis management team of the Prevention of Epidemic and Infectious Diseases cell coordinates the clean-up activities.
The team works for source reduction of mosquitoes, destruction of their larvae, conducts fogging in places where mosquitoes proliferate, and prevention of diseases spread by mosquitoes.
Source reduction measures for vector control are taken up weekly in association with the district vector control unit, and review of the activities is done every two weeks.
However, waste left over by patients visiting other institutions on the campus is adding to the burden of the medical college hospital, a release said. The hospital sought the support of the public in making the campus mosquito-free and waste-free.
