Facilities for church fete

All measures will be put in place for the smooth conduct of this year’s Feast of King the Christ at the Madre de Deus church at Vettukad near here from November 15 to 24, Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar has said.

At a meeting convened at the parish hall to discuss the arrangements for the festival on Monday, he said Rs.70 lakh had been sanctioned to take up road improvement works at Vettukad and Beemapalli before November 15.

Power, water supply

A sum of Rs.5 lakh would be utilised to ensure power supply in the area.

Drinking water to the areas would not be disrupted, he said.

The Health Ministry had issued directions to the Primary Health Centre at Vettukad and Community Health Centre at Veliaveli to extend their working hours.

The services of a medical team and ambulance would be available near the church, he added.

Train halts

Adequate number of police personnel would be deployed in the area. Illegal sale of liquor during the festival time would be curbed.

Efforts were being made to provide stoppage for trains at Kochuveli and Pettah railway stations on November 15 and from November 22-24, he said.
