The fourth Esenin Award—instituted jointly by the Esenin Museum, Moscow, the Foundation Russkiy Mir and the Russian Cultural Centre in Thiruvananthapuram—was given to writer Rosemary at a ceremony held at the Gorky Bhavan on Sunday.

The award was given away jointly by the Union Minister Shashi Tharoor and Fyodor Rozovskiy, the head of the cultural affairs division of the Russian embassy in New Delhi, a press note said.

This was in recognition of the writer’s Malayalam translation of Russian peoms.

Mr. Tharoor also inaugurated the valedictory of the three-month Russian language and cultural festival hosted by the Centre.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Tharoor said ‘People’s Diplomacy’ was the much needed foundation stone for world peace.

Friendship

Appreciation of a nation’s literature by the people of another, leads to friendship between the two countries. Russian literature had its influence on writers in India, Mr. Tharoor said.

The honorary consul of the Russian Federation to India, Ratheesh C. Nair was among those who were present on the occasion.
