The dry taps at Prasanth Nagar has finally become lively from early this month, bringing to an end the residents’ decade-old fight for uninterrupted pipe-water supply.
The KWA was able to supply drinking water to this colony after the interconnection of two main pipelines from Aruvikkara was cut off at Peroorkada in November.
Sources said the quantity of water had shown a marked improvement. The authority has stopped supply of tanker water to Prasanth Nagar, which has been the norm for years. The residents were up in arms against the KWA for not supplying piped water .

The scene was a ‘meet the candidate’ programme organised by an umbrella organisation of residents’ associations last week. The small hall at the Press Club was packed. The sitting MP concentrated his talk on his achievements over the past five years. On being asked about local issues, he chose to blame the Corporation and the Mayor for their non-cooperation. When more blame was laid at the local body’s door, an old man from stood up and asked: “You be the Mayor then. Do not be an MP.”

The past 24 hours, for several candidates hoping to be in the fray for the Lok Sabha polls, were quite tense as their nominations were being scrutinised, and in the case of some, the final decisions were kept on hold for a day. The UDF’s Shashi Tharoor and the LDF’s Bennet Abraham were among those who had to wait.
The 24-hour awkward pause, however, passed over quite ‘peacefully’ on Tuesday, with both now officially accepted as candidates.
