Emirates operated the scheduled two flights in the Thiruvananthapuram-Dubai sector on Thursday much to the relief of the air passengers who had to proceed to other overseas destinations from its hub in Dubai International Airport.

The flight EK 523 of 4.30 a.m. and the EK 521 of 10.30 a.m. departed from Thiruvananthapuram international airport after a slight delay to Dubai, airline sources said. The airline deployed Airbus 330-200 for the first flight and the wide-bodied Boeing 777-300 ER for the second journey.

The airlines is taking care of needs of the passengers who had booked their tickets in Emirates. All assistance and information is being provided to the families of passengers of the aircraft. As the Dubai airport was closed for few hours on Wednesday and flights were diverted, airport sources said it will take time to restore normalcy.

Uncertainty prevailed over the flights as the Dubai airport was closed on Wednesday following “operational incident” involving the EK 521 flight. The ill-fated flight took off from Thiruvananthapuram international airport with 282 passengers and 18 crew and caught fire on landing at Dubai. All the passengers and crew escaped via the emergency exits before the blaze engulfed the Boeing aircraft.
