Communist Party of India (CPI) district secretary G.R. Anil has appealed to officials appointed as election observers to act impartially. In a statement, Mr. Anil accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of violating the model code of conduct during campaigning. An examination of the accounts relating to the expenditure incurred by BJP candidates for their respective campaigns would prove that they had far exceeded the limit. The election observers turned a blind eye towards the lavish nature of the party’s public meetings, particularly those which were attended by the Prime Minister and Union Ministers, he said.
