Kerala Congress (B) chairman R. Balakrishna Pillai on Saturday indicated that he had left the door open for rapprochement with his son, Forest Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar, and said he was willing to consider withdrawing his party’s contentious letter to the United Democratic Front (UDF) leadership regarding the Minister’s continuation in the Chandy Cabinet if he obeyed the party’s directives.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Pillai said he would not shut the door on an amicable resolution if Mr. Ganesh Kumar functioned as per the wishes of the party. He said his party’s State committee meeting here had agreed to keep open the channels of reconciliation on the basis of the commitment given by Kerala Congress (B) representatives at the UDF meeting recently, which had promised to find a final solution to the issues by April 2, when the UDF high power committee will hold its next session.

“I’m hopeful of it happening soon,” Mr. Pillai said when asked about whether his meeting with his son had yielded any results.
